Mr. Apex is the artistic lens and studio practice through which contemporary Indian artist Gunjit Purswani explores pop culture, nostalgia, and collectible design through painting and sculpture. Part of the Nostalgia in Chrome series, Level Up reimagines the globally recognised figure of Super Mario through a polished chrome sculptural form. The series reflects on childhood icons that once existed as rugged toys, gaming figures, and everyday companions, now transformed into refined collectible objects. For Gunjit, these characters represent more than nostalgia. They carry memories of growing up, dreaming bigger, and constantly moving to the next stage in life. Inspired by the idea of "levelling up," the sculpture reflects ambition, growth, and the pursuit of something greater, while still holding onto the innocence and excitement of childhood. The chrome finish celebrates these familiar figures in a new way, turning playful memories into lasting sculptural objects that balance emotion, aspiration, and contemporary collectible culture.
