The Grounded Chair

The Grounded Chair is an exploration of memory, reclamation, and the cultural intimacy of floor seating by Nipun and Simran of Dhammada Collective. Crafted from discarded wooden shipping pallets salvaged from industrial yards, the piece transforms overlooked material into an object rooted in humility, comfort, and togetherness. Inspired by traditional Indian floor gatherings and the Japanese zaisu, the chair bridges cultures through a low-seating experience that encourages connection while offering ergonomic support. Retaining the original nail marks and imperfections of the reclaimed wood, the piece carries visible traces of its past life — celebrating not only sustainability, but the beauty of material history and transformation.
