Dissection of the Lineage of Craft — Kashmir Edition IV

Part of an ongoing series exploring India's traditional crafts through the universal form of the egg — symbolic of origin, life and new beginnings. These handcrafted paper mâché eggs were created in Srinagar, Kashmir, with master artisans whose families have practised the craft for generations. Inspired by historic Kashmiri embroidery, textiles and floral motifs, each piece reinterprets traditional craftsmanship into a contemporary sculptural form. Made using layers of recycled newspaper, every egg is meticulously hand painted and finished with multiple coats of lacquer, taking over 45 days to complete.
